Via Ferrate hikes

Via Ferrata"Atop a mountain we feel the joy of life, the emotion to feel good and relief of forgetting earth's miseries. All of this because we are closer to heaven"

Emilio Comici

To hike the Via Ferrata is surely a very spectacular experience, but definitely a bit more challenging than many others. Within theDolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll find limitless amazing places to hike such as on the Via Ferratas (Iron Path ways). Here you’ll experience an activity residing somewhere between purerock climbing and classic mountain hiking. It is in fact a way to reach beautiful places and mountain peaks on routes equipped with fixed steel cables, stemples and hanging bridges. To hike via ferratas, some specific equipment is needed such as: a lanyard, harness and helmet, in addition to your normal hiking gear.

A bit of history: The first Via Ferratas in the Dolomites date back to World War I, when soldiers from the Austrian and Italian troops, fighting for the conquest of each peak, used them to reach their positions and trenches quickly.

A new era of the Via Ferratas has recently begun. Not only have many been upgraded to make hiking them safer, but each year they’ve become more widely recognized as a “must see & do” by tourists who come to visit the majestic mountains and breathtaking views of the Dolomites. We, at Holimites, have been hiking via ferratas in Alta Badia for decades. As children, we often dreamt about conquering the peaks ofCir, Piz da Lech and Pisciadú with our parents. And now, we would like to afford you the same special sensations we have such fond memories of ... and still have, while hiking up the Dolomites stone and taking in the unbelievable views of the landscapes visible from the mountain peaks.
